DESCRIPTION:March (April) Break Knitting Club details:\nDate: Monday\, April 12 – Friday\, April 16\nTime: 11.00 – 11.30 am \nThere are 15 spots available. \nPlease have yarn and knitting needles ready. Parents are welcome to join their child/children!\n  \nIn an effort to encourage children and teens to pick up knitting as a hobby\, especially during this time of fewer activities available and more time at home\, Sew Creative has launched Knit Creative.\nKnit Creative is an online knitting club that encourages children and teens (ages 8-16) to try a new hobby at home that is fun\, relaxing\, affordable and mostly away from screens*. Parents are welcome to join their child/children to learn together!\nJoining the club is FREE.\n*I am an ardent supporter of keeping screen time low for children. I am also aware of the impact that isolation has on children and their need to interact with others. Hence the 30 minute online club meeting\, which hopefully generates inspiration for hours of offline knitting!\n\n  \nThis is how the club works:\nKnit Creative is using two platforms:\n\n\nZOOM – weekly meetings of 30 minutes for connecting socially with the other knitters. I will not be teaching during these club meetings\, as teaching is available through the video links that I post on Flipgrid (see below). There will be opportunity to help each other with some knitting troubleshooting or technical issues with the platforms. The main focus of the Zoom meeting is to give encouragement\, to socialize and have fun. In order to keep Knit Creative’s Zoom meetings as safe as possible\, participants will enter the meeting from the waiting room and will be admitted by the host.\n\n\nFlipgrid – for posting links to free online tutorials that I have vetted and recommend\, exchanging ideas for knitting projects\, sharing of helpful resources and giving feedback. Club members are encouraged to answer weekly questions and post their ideas\, useful links\, photos of projects etc.\, for other club members to see. SUMMARY:Sew at Home: Fabric Flowers
DESCRIPTION:I had planned a special Mothers Day sewing event for you and your child this year\, but as the sewing school is still closed\, I encourage you to try this idea at home instead: Sewing fabric flowers is easier than you think and can be a made together with your child!\nWe have made the pictured fabric roses in class.\nI found some similar tutorials online:\nSew Historically similar to mine\nThe Crafty Gentleman The closest to mine (skip the first few steps\, normal scissors do the job!) They can be hand-sewn with a running stitch. Last step (6): I make a few stitches by hand instead of pinning\, as in the Sew Historically tutorial above.\nMake It – Love It has 30 different fabric flower tutorials\, some easier than the roses. Suitable for younger children.\n\nI use a BBQ skewer for the rose stem\, covered with floral tape. If you don’t have floral tape you could paint them. Cut some leaves of green felt and hot glue them to the stem (if using floral tape they can be added in as you wrap the tape around the skewer). At the bottom of the rose I cover up the frayed fabric edges with a small square of green felt\, use some hot glue and pinch together\, then push the skewer through this square into the rose.\n\nShare this:

Join our Rice Frog sewing competition!\nThis is absolutely free and intended for you to be active and creative\, with supplies you can probably find in your home. There will be three sewing-related prizes to win.\nWe are going to sew rice frogs just like the one pictured above. They are called rice frogs\, because they are filled with (uncooked) rice\, which makes them really floppy and fun to play with. You can even make clothing for them. You can sew a hat\, scarf and even a vest for them.\n  \n\n\nHome Décor: Sew a poinsettia pillow.
